Get to Know Rep. Randy Novak

State Representative Randy Novak was sworn into office on Oct. 22, 2025, to serve Hoosiers in House District 9, representing Michigan City, Northern LaPorte County, and portions of Eastern Porter County.

A long-time LaPorte County resident, Novak brings more than three decades of public service to the Statehouse, including a distinguished career with the Michigan City Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Fire Chief. He also served as President of the LaPorte County Council, focusing on fiscal oversight, economic development and transparent government. In addition to his public service career, Novak has worked in real estate as a licensed broker since 1998, giving him a strong background in business, finance, contract negotiation and managing multimillion-dollar budgets.

His legislative priorities include supporting first responders, maintaining strong emergency services, promoting workforce development and expanding access to quality, affordable housing. He continues to advocate for balanced budgets, responsible economic growth and collaborative solutions that move LaPorte County forward.

Novak has served as Chairman of the LaPorte County Fire Chiefs Association, President of the LaPorte County Redevelopment Commission and the Fairground Management and Event Corporation, and as a member of the LaPorte County 911 Advisory Board. He has also served on the boards of the North Central Community Action Agencies and the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and has remained active on the Michigan City Fire Pension Board since 1994. Earlier in his career, he was President of the Michigan City Firefighters Local #475 and the LaPorte County Association of REALTORS® and served on the Michiana Shores Town Council from 1991 to 1996.

Novak graduated from Rogers High School and continued his education through Ivy Tech, Purdue North Central and the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education. He holds certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician, State Fire Investigator, State Fire Inspector and Real Estate Broker, and completed both the Leadership LaPorte County and Leadership Northwest Indiana programs.

A devoted family man, Novak has been married to his wife Debbie for 46 years. Together they have two sons and four grandchildren. He continues to live by the core values of pride, honor and integrity, striving to be a steady, bipartisan voice for the people of LaPorte County and a dedicated advocate for progress across the state.

Rep. Novak serves on the House Committee on Environmental Affairs and House Committee on Natural Resources.
